In October, the 76’ers hosted CHNJ youth and staff at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly. Thanks to our gracious hosts, staff and young people had special parking, seating on the floor during warmups, great game seats, and food vouchers. They also met Sixers star and Olympic silver medalist Guerschon Yabusele. What a wonderful opportunity for our young people to enjoy such special accommodations and a great game.
Dave Sholler, a Covenant House friend and supporter, graciously orchestrated his team of folks at the Sixers to ensure a great, once-in-a-lifetime experience for our youth. Dave is Chief Communications Officer at the 76ers and was recently named as one of PR News’s People of the Year 2024. He has shared his own journey of resilience with the youth at Covenant House several times over the last 3 years. He and his family have sponsored meals, provided monetary support, and helped connect Covenant House with other partnership that support the mission and services of Covenant House New Jersey.
We’re proud of both the immediate services we provide to stabilize our youth, as well as the supportive services that we provide to help successfully transition youth to independent living. And while these services are critical, sometimes it’s also important to have fun trying new experiences, broadening horizons, and building community among staff and young people. We are so grateful to Dave Sholler and the 76’ers for providing new experiences and broadening horizons for our youth.
