The “Broadridge Battle” with our Youth
As a partner of ours since 2019, Broadridge has focused on building job skills and confidence for our youth. Since the formation of their first Sleep Out team in 2019 and every year since, Broadridge has become an essential partner to our youth in Newark, supporting programs that empower young people with those skills and confidence needed to succeed. In July 2023, 15 Broadridge employees came onsite to our Newark Youth Engagement for a Service Day – a half day hands-on learning experience with their employees and our young people based around skills learned in our Dove Learning Center.
And last month, eleven Broadridge volunteers and eight CHNJ youth came together at the Broadridge office in Newark, NJ, for the “Broadridge Battle,” a fun and educational off site experience. The day began with a tour of the office for the youth, while Broadridge employees attended a session on CHNJ’s mission and services. Lucas L., one of the youth participants, shared, “The overall experience was fun, but the thing that stood out to me the most was the tour. I learned every picture on the walls was the location of a Broadridge site. It was a casual way to share their success without bragging.”
The main event, the Broadridge Battle, involved an interactive game designed to build job-related skills in a Family Feud-style format. Youth and volunteers split into four teams and answered questions on job preparation, interview techniques, and employment skills, allowing them to practice critical thinking, teamwork, and career readiness skills in a dynamic and enjoyable way.
Gerald Nvule, Product Manager at LTX and one of the Broadridge-Covenant House NJ liaisons, remarked, “The Broadridge Battle was a lot of fun for everyone! At Broadridge, we’re committed to empowering youth with the skills they need to enter the workforce with confidence. The game-style format let us engage directly with these young individuals, sharing insights and tips in a way that was both impactful and fun. Watching them gain confidence as we worked together as a team is a reminder of the importance of community support.”
The Broadridge Battle complements the work we do at the Dove Learning Center (DLC) by integrating essential employment skills training in an engaging format. By focusing on job preparation, interview techniques, and collaboration, the activity helps our youth build confidence and sharpen their abilities, reinforcing their readiness to pursue meaningful employment. Also, the experience of having our young people offsite at the Broadridge Newark office helps to increase the exposure to real-world experiences that our youth need. This partnership exemplifies the impact that dedicated corporate support can have on helping young people thrive as they prepare to enter the workforce.
Corporate support is an important component of the work we do. If you are a company or corporation interested in supporting our work with youth facing homelessness, contact Corporate Partnerships & Foundation Officer, Mary Lonergan (mlonergan@covenanthouse.org).
