Resilience skills are key to transitioning our youth to independent living and to maintaining a positive living environment thereafter. The Dove Learning Center (DLC) was created as a space dedicated to developing these skills. Thanks to the generosity of the Abe Littenberg Foundation, DLC’s critical space and programs have now arrived at our moms and babies program at Raphael’s Life House (RLH)! With that, new volunteer opportunities are at RLH.
This dedicated creative space will allow our pregnant and parenting moms the access to so many amazing resources and opportunities. Additionally, the program is in their own home under the guidance of a full time DLC staff member. With so many of our moms having newborns and little ones, bringing the DLC in-house is a game changer for them and critical to their progression forward!
The Abe Littenberg Foundation generously provided funds that transformed this space into the learning lab. The five core components of the DLC are
- Education
- Employment
- Financial Literacy
- Physical and Mental Well Being
- Social Navigation (life skills)
Programs to support these components include mock interviews, resume writing, assistance enrolling into educational programs, financial literacy groups, house hunting and more.
This space has become a welcoming and exciting room providing hope and inspiration for our young moms to take hold of their futures and begin working on their dreams. For instance, we are already seeing success, as 6 of our moms have found employment and 4 more have transitioned from RLH to independent living.
The DLC operates at our Newark, Atlantic City and now at RLH and is based on the support of volunteers. To learn more about our new volunteer opportunities or how to volunteer at the DLC click here.
