Samsung Electronics America executives have been sleeping out in New Jersey for three years, so when the event went virtual last fall, they knew this was an opportunity to grow their team. And they did, going from 7 Sleepers in 2019 to 25 in 2020. Team Captain Jamal Haughton, Senior Vice President, and General Counsel led his team to raise over $200,000!
With our U.S. headquarters located in New Jersey, Samsung believes strongly that our business only thrives when our local partners and communities thrive,” said Ann Woo, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship for Samsung Electronics. “Our 25 Samsung executives – across business units and across the country- participated in the Sleep Out to experience first-hand the difficulties of homelessness, and in doing so raising the visibility of the issue of youth homelessness and raised funds to support the organization and services.
Samsung and Covenant House New Jersey worked with each Sleeper to make sure they had the tools they needed to be successful, encouraging them to generate interest and funds through LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, along with emails to their personal and professional networks. Samsung Sleepers shared their personal accounts of youth homelessness and reconnected with childhood friends while advocating for the organization.
Added Ms. Woo, The executive team’s personal sacrifice to sleep outdoors on behalf of homeless youth was an embodiment of our corporate culture and values.
