A Year End Letter to Our Community

Because of you, young people in New Jersey didn’t face the night alone. 

You showed up as part of the Covenant House community—and community is how we end youth homelessness, one young person at a time. 

Our north star is housing. We measure our success by whether a young person can move from unhoused to housed….and stay there. That takes two things working together: relationships – a caring adult who shows up – and resources – the practical programs and tools that remove barriers to housing. 

Relationships plus resources: that’s our “secret sauce”. And you make it possible. 

We know it works: last year, we reached 2,400 young people, 30% more than the year before. On an average night, 260 young people sleep safely in Covenant House New Jersey beds. And when youth leave our care, 64% move into positive, stable living situations—among the best outcomes in the Covenant House network.

It’s not just numbers. Our work impacts young people, like Anthony. When Anthony came through our doors, he had been couch-surfing for almost a year, without a reliable place to call home. While he was at Covenant House, Anthony earned his security guard license and got a job, working the overnight shift. Still, he was never too tired upon his return to Covenant House to check in with staff – to make sure they were good! Earlier this year, Anthony was able to move into his own apartment, near our Youth Engagement Center. 

But tonight, too many young people are still waiting for help. That’s why I’m asking you to make a special year-end gift – because you can keep the doors of Covenant House open for more young people like Anthony who need safety, stability, and hope. 

When you make a gift, you’re part of a community that believes young people shouldn’t be homeless—and takes action to make that true.

I promise to be a good steward of your gift. For fourteen years, Covenant House New Jersey has had a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. We intend to keep that streak going.
