Bank of America Is Empowering Youth

With Bilingual Financial Literacy

Bank of America is empowering youth at Covenant House New Jersey through its ongoing financial literacy partnership. Most recently, Bank of America learned of our need to offer financial literacy skills in both Spanish and English. As a result, Bank of America volunteers are now visiting our Dove Learning Center (DLC) twice a month where they lead bilingual workshops. These workshops help our young people build essential financial skills. These skills enhance their transition to independent living after leaving CHNJ.

The sessions are a cornerstone of our financial literacy programming, one of five key pillars in our DLC which also includes programs to support education, employment, social navigation skills, and health/wellness. The financial literacy training helps equip youth with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions, understand the importance of credit scores, build savings, and pursue long-term economic stability. In addition to group sessions, Bank of America provides one-on-one guidance to assist youth in opening bank accounts and navigating the financial system. The team also shares employment opportunities and workforce preparation tools, helping young people move closer to financial independence.

“Financial education is a critical step in breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness,” said Alberto Garofalo, President, Bank of America New Jersey. “We’re proud to support Covenant House NJ’s mission by empowering these incredible young people with the tools and confidence to take control of their financial futures.”

Staff at the Dove Learning Center have seen firsthand the impact of the workshops.

“Our youth are not only learning how to manage money – but they’re also building confidence and planning for their future,” said Shabana Hassan, Dove Learning Center Coordinator. “The individualized support from Bank of America makes a real difference in their journey toward independence.”

We are so grateful to Bank of America for their long time support of our youth. This partnership exemplifies how meaningful corporate engagement can drive lasting change in the lives of young people facing homelessness.
