NY Yankee Oswaldo Cabrera Chairing Community Sleep Out

NY Yankee Oswaldo Cabrera will be chairing our Community Sleep Out being held on Friday March 1, 2024. Cabrera will serve as chairman of our statewide Sleep Out occurring at locations in Newark, Asbury Park, and Camden. Oswaldo invites people from all over New Jersey and surrounding areas to give up their beds for one night and sleep outside to raise funds and awareness for CHNJ.

Oswaldo is known for his impressive journey from Venezuela to the New York Yankees, and brings not only his passion for baseball but also his commitment to making a difference in the lives of those facing adversity. During a recent visit to the Rights of Passage program in Asbury Park, Cabrera had the opportunity to connect with both staff and residents, gaining insight into the challenges that many young people endure without the support he received.

“While my journey from Venezuela to the Yankees had its challenges, I knew I could always count on my family to support my dream of playing Major League Baseball. During a visit with staff and residents at the Rights of Passage program in Asbury Park, I was so moved by the stories of the young people who do not have that same support and want to do all I can to help them. That is why I am so honored to be the Chair for the Community Sleep Out on March 1. I want anyone facing homelessness or human trafficking to know that Oswaldo Cabrera loves them and is praying for them.”

The Community Sleep Out is an annual event organized to raise awareness and funds for youth facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking. Participants engage in an impactful evening encapsulated by a night of sleeping outdoors to raise critical funds in support of our programs across New Jersey.

“We are so grateful for this partnership with Oswaldo, as he believes in our vision for helping our young people achieve their dreams and goals. Today, our young people are working or going to school; some are doing both. We know that if young people who experience homelessness are given a safe and supportive environment, they can move beyond homelessness to a life of fulfilling their dreams and everything they deserve.”

Senior Director of Development

We encourage community members, businesses, and organizations to join Oswaldo in supporting the Community Sleep Out. By participating or making a donation, individuals can contribute to breaking the cycle of homelessness and human trafficking among young people.

CHNJ is a bridge to hope for young people facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking, providing housing and wraparound services with absolute respect, unconditional love, and relentless support. Our doors are open 24-7 in 7 locations across New Jersey. CHNJ’s high-quality programs are designed to give young people safe spaces to stay and connect them with the resources they need to exit homelessness permanently.
